With the planet’s resources heading towards depletion at an astonishing rate, it is no wonder that we all look to ways to save energy. We need to know how to stop wasting energy and need impartial advice on how to achieve this becoming greener goal.
Use less water
It can be as simple as only boiling just enough water in the kettle to make your one cup of tea, of fixing that leaky tap in the bathroom or stop using a hose to wash the car but use a bucket instead, or stop using a hose for watering the garden but use a watering can, use a water butt to collect rain water and then use it is your garden. These are all great ways to save water in your home and they are very easy and quick ways to lower your water usage without too much disruption to your everyday life.
Use electricity wisely
Switch off lights when you are not in the room – whenever you switch a light on question whether you really need it to be on. So many of us are on autopilot, that sometimes we do things without thinking – 9 times out of 10 you won’t need the light on and after a while you won’t automatically switch on all the lights in your home. You will just turn them on when necessary.
What other ways can you save electricity usage? Well, why not schedule your dishwasher and washing machine to come on in the early hours of the morning? This is the cheapest time of the day to use electricity, so why not take advantage of that? You can check with your electricity company to find out when you use the most electricity, so you can try and reduce the usage during the most expensive times of the day.
Use energy saving products
You can use energy saving products around your home – like low energy light bulbs. When you are ready to change your next appliance or electrical equipment, why not try an energy efficient one. You can check with the supplier to find out which of their products are eco friendly products. The less energy these appliances use, the less they cost to run. Laptops use around 80% less energy than a desktop computer – and they take up much less space. This is definitely something to consider when you are thinking of buying a new computer.
What about energy efficient windows? Consider this option when replacing your existing windows. Capture the sun’s energy and hold it to heat up your home. Ensure the window replacement company offers a recycling service for your old windows – this is much better than sending them for landfill.
Hopefully these few tips will give you some ideas of how to save energy around your home.
